What it does

See your Stream Deck keys inside SteamVR, where the deck sits on your sim rig or desk. Hotkeys, hold-to-confirm toggles and MIDI for your rig, three-touch calibration with any SteamVR controller, nudge keys to settle the grid from the headset; it stays on the deck when tracking is re-zeroed.

VR Deck is two parts in one package. The Stream Deck plugin gives you the keys. A small Windows companion app, which the plugin starts by itself, draws those same keys as a SteamVR overlay, lined up with where the physical deck is mounted on your rig or desk, and lights a key up when you press it. So you can find and press the right key with the headset on, without any screen capture.

Who it is for

  • On the sim rig

Start and stop FlyPT Mover from inside a stage and watch the actuators move, toggle Pimax passthrough, recenter, and read DiRT Rally 2.0's telemetry on the deck and in the headset. The start keys hold to confirm, and your hardware e-stop stays the only safety device.

  • Streaming from VR

Anyone streaming from VR has a Stream Deck they cannot see: scene switches, mute, alerts and chat replies mean lifting the headset or pressing blind. VR Deck shows the deck where it physically is, with the page you are on, so keys are found by sight and by feel without taking the headset off. No rig? Untick Mover, loopMIDI, Game telemetry and Pimax Play in the Setup key and it goes green on the companion and SteamVR alone.

One limit for both: keys from any plugin or icon pack show in VR as their stored picture, so your scene, mute and alert keys are there with their icons; a picture a plugin draws while it runs (a mute state, an active scene, a clock) does not change in the headset, because plugins cannot see each other's pictures.

The keys

  • HotkeyTypes one keyboard shortcut, for example Pimax passthrough or recenter. Optional hold-to-confirm.
  • Multi HotkeySeveral shortcuts in a row with pauses between them.
  • ToggleTwo states with their own shortcut, label and icon, for example Start Mover (hold 1 s) and Stop Mover (tap).
  • MIDIA note or control change to a MIDI output, for example a loopMIDI port read by FlyPT Mover's hot controls. Reaches Mover even while a game holds the keyboard.
  • VR CalibrateShows the companion and SteamVR status. Tap to start placing the overlay on your deck with a tracked controller.
  • VR NudgeMoves, lifts, spins, tilts or resizes the overlay by a small step per press, from inside the headset.
  • VR Show/HideSwitches the overlay on and off in the headset. The calibration is kept.
  • VR RecenterSteamVR's own reset of the seated or standing zero pose, for every headset and game that runs through SteamVR. The overlay stays on the deck.
  • VR LookThe dark backplate under the deck and the overlay's opacity, changed live from the deck.
  • VR GaugeLive bars and a limits tile from FlyPT Mover's commanded actuator positions, ten times a second, on the deck and in the headset.
  • Game dataOne live tile of DiRT Rally 2.0's telemetry: shift light, gear, g-meter, brake temperatures, sector delta, stage clock or distance to go.
  • SetupChecks Pimax Play, SteamVR, FlyPT Mover, game telemetry and loopMIDI on this PC, installs a ready-made profile and teaches your shortcuts to other apps.

Two ready-made profiles

Two ready-made 15-key profiles (keyboard or MIDI Mover keys) with a DiRT Rally 2.0 page; the MIDI one starts and stops Mover inside a game. Both editions have the same five pages and differ only in the four Mover command keys:

PageWhat is on it
HomeVR Deck on/off, Setup, VR Calibrate, VR Recenter, Passthru (Pimax passthrough), and the keys that open the other four pages.
NudgeFourteen adjustment keys to settle the grid onto the deck from inside the headset, and Home.
MoverOutputs on/off and Sources on/off for FlyPT Mover, one gauge per actuator, a Limits tile, Mover window, and Home.
DiRTEight live DiRT Rally 2.0 tiles: shift light, gear, time, distance to go, sector delta, g-meter, front and rear brakes, and Home.
LookBackplate off/on, lighter and darker; overlay opacity down and up; and Home.

The profiles are made for the 15-key Stream Deck MK.2 and original. On any other deck you place single keys yourself; every action works there except the page-switch keys.

Other plugins' keys

Other plugins' keys show in the headset as static tiles (name and stored picture), not their live content: plugins cannot see each other's pictures. Your own VR Deck keys are always live.

Works with

  • SteamVR, and every headset and game that runs through it (OpenVR titles and OpenXR titles on the SteamVR runtime).
  • Valve Index, Vive and Touch controllers for the calibration; others fall back to a raw pose.
  • Pimax Play: the passthrough and reset-view shortcuts, recorded from the deck.
  • FlyPT Mover: start and stop commands and live actuator gauges.
  • DiRT Rally 2.0: its standard UDP telemetry on the DiRT page.

Requirements

Windows 10/11 x64, Stream Deck app 7.1+, SteamVR with a compatible headset, a controller with a trigger, .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64); for the Mover keys, FlyPT Mover and loopMIDI (free, separate programs). Verified on the 15-key MK.2; other models use published sizes, unverified. Index, Vive and Touch controllers work; others fall back to a raw pose. SteamVR overlays only.

Privacy

Nothing is collected; all traffic stays on your PC (127.0.0.1); it reads the Stream Deck app's profile files, read-only. No account, no analytics, no crash reporting. The only files VR Deck writes are its own, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\VRDeck.

Not an emergency stop: keep your hardware e-stop within reach. The keys only send keystrokes and MIDI. Start-style keys default to hold-to-confirm, and the rig's hardware e-stop stays the only safety device.
